Snizhana Romanivna Gritcenko: Shelter 2 Profile

Recently we shared about Vita, a young woman living at the Shelter who currently doesn’t have any sponsors. Snizhana is another young lady who is living with us and would love to have a sponsor from the States! Please contact Emily at emily@lastbell.org or 978-412-5321 if you would like to sponsor either of these young ladies. Snizhana is one of the newest residents at the Shelter. She came to live with us full-time in December of 2014. DSCN5542 Before that, she had regularly attended the Shelter day center activities, beginning with her graduation from Berdichiv orphanage a year ago. She interested in everything, including our classes about hobbies and our youth meetings. Snizhana is very athletic (she takes boxing lessons), and we can see that she is a brave, happy, hard-working young woman. She tries to learn as much as she can, and she longs for love and care. Snizhana was born in January of 1996 in a village called Berezhiki. She doesn’t remember exactly why she and her brother were removed from their family, but she knows it was the day after her uncle was murdered. The whole family saw him cut into pieces. Snizhana remembers parts of that awful event – and that her mom was beaten and injured at the same time. The kids hid under the bed. She has no memories of her father at all, and doesn’t remember if her parents drank or if they were a normal family before her uncle’s death. She and her baby brother were taken to a hospital, then to a “baby house” (orphanage for very young children). After that, while Snizhana was taken to the orphanage at Berdichiv, her baby brother was sent to Kyiv. Snizhana doesn’t want to know anything about her relatives and doesn’t want to look for her parents, since they haven’t looked for her all these years. She’s sad her grandmother didn’t try to stay in touch with her. Also, the village where her relatives live has a high crime rate, so Snizhana thinks it would be dangerous to go visit. DSCN5526 But she would like to find her brother, Misha. When Snizhana and Misha were removed from their family, Misha was just a few months old; now he would be about 16. Snizhana was also told she has a half-sister, her mother’s daughter. This sister – six to eight years old – is in an orphanage, but Snizhana doesn’t know where. Snizhana is at Trade School #15, studying to be a waiter and a cook. Please pray for Snizhana’s heart and her future! ???????????????????????????????
